Product: Gluten Free (GF) and Halal certified meals
Secret Recipe specialises in the production of Gluten Free (GF) and Halal certified meals for the foodservice industry primarily in the UK and Ireland. They offer a range of multi award-winning gluten free soups and meals as well as a recently launching range of vegetarian and vegan gluten free products to the retail market.
Gary Service founded Secret Recipe in 2014 and joined Food Works in 2015. Speaking about the programme, Gary said “Food Works gave my company the confidence to take on the UK market which contains a number of significant players for our business. I would recommend it to anyone with a strong idea for a food business. For a Cork-based company, the early starts in Dublin might be a nuisance but you will be repaid 10-fold!”
Employing 12 people in its Gluten Free kitchen in Ballincollig in Cork, their product range is currently on offer in Ireland and the UK. Speaking about plans for the business in 2017 Gary said, “We hope to double our employee numbers this year as we prepare to launch into the Middle Eastern market. From our point of view the Irish market is big, the UK market huge but the scale of the Middle Eastern market is just mind blowing”.
Since it’s launch, the company has received a number of accolades. Commenting on the product range, Neven Maguire one of Ireland’s leading chefs said it was “stunning” and of “restaurant quality”. They have also received a number of prestigious industry awards including the 2016 Free From Awards; the Blas Na hEireann awards in 2016, 2015 and 2014; Best Catering Provider in Ireland in the 2015 Facilities Awards; and winner in the Idea Works category at the Compass Catering (Ireland) 2015 awards.
Secret Recipe’s range of gluten free and halal meals and soups are ideal for any number of businesses including contract catering facilities, large national wholesalers, small specialised distributors and small independent deli’s.
The company takes great pride in its sustainability measures and is a proud member of Bord Bia’s Origin Green programme. It sources ingredients locally where possible, using either Carrageen moss seaweed from the Aran Islands or potatoes as the means to thicken some of their unique products, to ensure that they remain gluten free.
They also work to source red meats from grass-fed animals and ensure that strict animal welfare rules are adhered to. The product range is halal certified and does not use MSG.
